General description The subject "Biotechnologia - Complemento de formación" aims to provide an introductory and general overview of the concept of biotechnology for students who have not had contact with this discipline in their undergraduate studies. The course also provides a series of concepts and specific cases of the large number of biotechnological applications of industrial interest.

APLICATIONS Topic 3.- APPLICATIONS OF MICROORGANISMS IN THE BIOPHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRIES: PRODUCTION OF ANTIBIOTICS. Antitumorals. Antivirals. Immunosuppressants. The example of the production of beta-lactam antibiotics.
Topic 4.- INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION OF ENZYMES. Enzymes of industrial interest and their applications. Strategies for the industrial production of enzymes. Enzyme immobilisation techniques.
Topic 5. APPLICATIONS OF MICROORGANISMS IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY.
Alcoholic fermentation: production of alcoholic beverages. Lactic fermentation: the dairy industry. Other fermented foods: sausages, oriental foods. Production of food additives and supplements.
Topic 6. INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION OF AMINO ACIDS, PEPTIDES AND HORMONES. Amino acids of the aspartic family and their industrial production.
