ANIMAL PRODUCTION AND HEALTH The student who chooses to develop the practical activities of the Placements in this veterinary field will work on aspects related to:

- the structure of the farm
(company)

- the facilities and elements related to biosecurity

- the feeding of the animals

- the health program

- the control of reproduction

- productive performance

- milking (if applicable)

- economic and productive management

- the records that must be kept.
SMALL ANIMAL, EXOTIC, EQUINE AND RENTAL ANIMAL CLINIC The student who chooses to develop the practical activities of the Placements in this veterinary field will work on aspects related to:

- preparing the clinical history correctly, using the appropriate terminology

- recognizing the main clinical signs and their correlation with the diseases that cause them

- the performance of the necessary exploratory tests

- the taking of samples for the development of different analyzes following general or oriented protocols; as well as the knowledge and execution of the different methods of conservation and transfer of samples for the various studies, including the histopathological process

- the interpretation of reports from the anatomopathological laboratories

- the issuance of a diagnosis and a prognosis, based on the data obtained

- the proposal of therapeutic measures and/or those aimed at preventing the different pathological processes present in pets, equines, farm animals, wild, exotic and laboratory animals.
HYGIENE, INSPECTION AND FOOD SAFETY, TECHNOLOGY AND FOOD The student who chooses to develop the practical activities of the Placements in this veterinary field will work on aspects related to:

- hygiene and inspection in the context of public health

- the technology of its manufacture

- the identification of hazards and evaluation of quality

- auditing of self-control systems and certification systems

- technical training in process control in the food industry.

External practicals Undertaking placements with veterinary professionals, in veterinary practices, slaughterhouses, companies, and external organisations in the veterinary or related fields.
Personal tuition Personalised and in-person upon request. Online media will also be utilised for non-face-to-face tutoring. All professors involved in teaching within the curriculum of the Veterinary Degree may act as tutors.

Description
Student advice. In the tutorials, the teacher will guide the students' learning, clarifying doubts about the activities carried out during the practices. Personalized and in-person, upon request for an appointment. Online media will also be used for non-face-to-face tutoring.

All full-time professors who teach in the Veterinary Degree may act as tutors.

External practicals The practical activities carried out by the students with external veterinary professionals will be evaluated based on:


A. Number of hours.
If the student has completed more hours of practice, it will be estimated whether these are reflected in what is expressed in the report and reports.

B. Report from the external tutor.
Depending on the established criteria and the development of the training activities, the following will be assessed:
- technical capacity
- learning capacity
- work and time management
- oral and written communication skills
- sense of responsibility
- ease of adaptation
- creativity and initiative
- motivation and personal involvement
- receptivity to criticism
- punctuality
- relationships with your work environment
- ability to work as a team
- those other aspects that are considered appropriate.

C. Report from the tutor/teacher.
It will evaluate the fulfillment of the objectives, the correspondence between the tasks developed and the knowledge and professional skills acquired by the student.

As a guideline, it is recommended that the Placements report have a maximum length of 20 pages, in DIN A4 format, font size 12 and line spacing 1.5.
This report will be preceded by 2 pages that will contain:

1) the cover, with the name of the student, the name of the internal tutor, the collaborating entity and its location, the name of the external tutor, and the date of presentation;

2) an index.


The work can be structured with the following chapters:

1. Introduction, with a description of the place where the practices have been carried out.

2. Concrete and detailed description of the tasks, works carried out, and the departments of the entity to which they have been assigned. Identification of the contributions that the practices have made in terms of learning.

3. Development of at least 2 clinical cases (if carried out in the field of medicine) or 2 laboratory procedures (if carried out in a laboratory) or 2 inspection procedures (if it takes place, for example, in a slaughterhouse or in a official veterinary health services) or 2 procedures related to the technical and economic management of farms and livestock companies.

4. Critical judgment or personal assessment, representing an evaluation of practices and suggestions for improvement.

You may incorporate tables and/or figures that must be accompanied by the corresponding titles or footers respectively. If these are not originals, it must be clearly indicated.


If the student opts for Honors, she will be able to defend her work, if the external internship committee so deems it, through an oral presentation, aided by ICT tools, for a maximum of 10 minutes.

Other comments and second call

The External Practices Committee of the Faculty of Veterinary has resolved to adopt the following assessment criteria:

­- Total practice hours completed by the student: 3 points. This score will be allocated provided the compulsory minimum of 96 hours is  fulfilled, encompassing participation in tutorials.

- Evaluation of the report: from 0 to 4 points. This takes into consideration the assessment and grading conducted by the student's academic tutor, who, in turn, will have considered not only their own evaluation of all activities undertaken by the student but also the quality of the submitted document and feedback from the external veterinary tutor.

- Committee appraisal: up to 3 points. The evaluations provided by both the academic and external veterinary tutors will be reviewed, and the work detailed in the report will be evaluated. Additional practice hours completed by the student will be considered if they are reflected in the content of the report and evaluations. Students aiming for the Distinction grade must, if required by the External Practices Committee, present their work for 10 minutes.

The role of the internal tutor for the placement student (Art. 17 of the Regulations for External Placements in Veterinary Degree Programmes at the Faculty of Veterinary, University of León) involves advising the student on matters related to the report's presentation. Therefore, they must scrutinise the submitted document for instances of plagiarism, copying, or fraud. Similarly, the external placements committee of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine will act accordingly if deemed necessary. The identification of such malpractices will result in a score of 0.0 for the component in question.

Students will be eligible to enrol in the Placements once they have completed the fourth year of their Degree and passed 210 credits of the Curriculum
