To develop students' skills in reading, listening, writing and speaking the English language in order to be able to carry out specific communicative activities relevant to their interests and needs at an intermediate level of proficiency.

To help students become effective learners and take on responsibility for their own learning, especially that related to their specific field of Librarianship and Documentation/Information Science.

To introduce students to the culture and civilization of the English-speaking world, especially focusing on those aspects related to the book industry, the book-related institutions and the literature in English.

Objetivos


To develop students' skills in reading, listening, writing and speaking the English language in order to be able to carry out specific communicative activities relevant to their interests and needs at an intermediate level of proficiency.

To help students become effective learners and take on responsibility for their own learning, especially that related to their specific field of Librarianship and Documentation/Information Science.

Contenidos
Bloque Tema
SKILLS . Reading: Students are expected to be able to read authentic texts of various kinds related to their field of study and to show understanding of gist, detail and text structure, and to deduce meaning; they should show a variety of reading skills including skimming, scanning, and selection of relevant information to complete a given activity. . Writing: Students are expected to be able to write specialized texts for a given purpose: to ask international institutions for information or documentation, reports, applications; to make a complaint; to use the interlibray lending service. Introduction to the elaboration of summaries and abstracts. . Listening: Students will be provided with texts of various kinds and they are expected to show understanding of gist, detail and text structure, and to deduce meaning. They must also be able to take notes from oral presentations delivered by the teacher or their classmates in order to carry out a given activity. . Speaking: Students are expected to be able to speak on the phone to ask for specific information or documentation. They must be able to talk to their classmates about topics related to the field of Librarianship and Documentation/Information Science, introduce themselves, give an account of their CV or reply to questions and interact in simulated job interviews. . Use of English: Students are expected to be able to use the structures of the language with ease and fluency, producing complex utterances. They must be able to adapt their language use to a variety of situations related to their future working context. Extension and consolidation of the specific vocabulary related to Librarianship and Information Science. CONTENTS . While the main focus of the course is the development of the students' skills to carry out the above-mentioned tasks, study and practice work on the following will also constitute an integral part: GRAMMAR LANGUAGE FUNCTIONS WORD STUDY SPECIFIC VOCABULARY TEXT FEATURES WRITING AND COMPOSITION SKILLS CULTURE AND CIVILIZATION
