General description "In this subject we study the period of Spain’s contemporary history from the Napoleonic invasion in 1808 to the end of the Spanish Civil War in 1939. It is a long period in which the fundamental changes which occur will be comprehensively studied. Firstly, we focus on the end of the Old Regime and the appearance of an economic system based on liberal ideas as well as the establishment of a class society and a constitutional political system. Secondly, we deal with the economic and social changes brought about by the new economic system, the revolution in transport and the industrialization process. Changes in the field of ideas and mentality are also covered, along those concerning political shifts. Finally, we study the profound changes and the social and political confrontations which take place in the first four decades of the 20th century and eventually lead to the Spanish Civil War." "
