A general presentation of modern linguistics, in its two aspects, theoretical and applied, and of the background leading to it. Fundamental concepts and presuppositions of general linguistics. Objectives and methods. The linguistic sciences and their units of analysis. The various viewpoints of researchers towards languages. Branches and links of linguistics. Historical overview of stages prior to the emergence of scientific linguistics with the aim of observing their influences upon the subject. " |
