Metodologías
The approach taken in classes will be both task-based and communicative. Student participation is considered essential and regular student attendance is vital. Activities will take place both in class as well as on the on-line class platform. The materials include the textbook and photocopiable supplementary material for individual practice. A wide range of supporting materials (include authentic materials and exam practice materials) will also be made available during the course. "

Contenidos
Bloque Tema
Use of English The revision and extension of grammar and vocabulary through the analysis and practice of advanced grammar points and through particular focus on the appropriate use of idiomatic expressions and subtle differences in meaning. Examination practice includes: transformations, editing, grammatical, lexical and discourse cloze type exercises; multiple choice and note expansion. Reading and writing Discourse analysis, stylistic-linguistic analysis and task-based heuristic and analytical activities to examine and develop: text organisation, point of view, register and style, editing skills, paraphrasing, summarising, descriptive composition and argumentative composition. Electronic literacy: On-line communication, construction and research. Examination practice exercises. Listening and speaking Pronunciation, intonation, accents; interaction (negotiate, persuade, justify, oppose, criticise) contrast and compare, react and assess; presentations, ethnographic interviewing and formal debating techniques.

"To achieve a mark in continuous assessment, students should do the following tasks: Six out-of-class writing assignments Listening assignments in the language laboratory Two oral tasks carried out in class (one presentation and one debate). Active participation in an on-line intercultural exchange with partner groups in American universities. (All students will need to have a working e-mail account to take part in this exchange as well as in other on-line activities.)" "

Assessment will be based on marks given for: final written examination and oral interview. The final examination is similar in level and format to the Cambridge Advanced Examination and is divided into five sections: reading, speaking, writing, listening and language in use. To obtain a pass mark, all students are required to pass the final examination. In order to pass the examination students are required to pass all five papers (pass=50%).
