"1. SYLLABLE STRUCTURE AND WORD STRESS. 1.1. Syllable structure. 1.2. Strong and weak syllables. 1.3. Syllabic consonants. 1.4. The nature and levels of stress. 1.5. Stress placement in simple and complex words. 2. CONNECTED SPEECH. 2.1. English rhythm. 2.2. Rhythmic patterns in English. 2.3. Strong and weak forms. 2.4. Phonological changes: assimilation, elision, liaison. 3. INTONATION. 3.1. Basic concepts: pitch, voice range, stress and accent, rhythm. 3.2. Description of English intonation. Units of intonation: tonality, tonicity, tone. Elements of intonation groups: pre-head, head, nucleus, tail. Representing intonation. 3.3. Basic functions of English intonation."

FINAL EXAM:

1. Written exam (theory+practice): 70% (35%+35%).

2. Oral exam: 30%.

Only those students who pass the written exam (minimum required: 35%) will be admitted to the oral exam.
