"CONTENTS SEMANTICS 1. Basic concepts: Proposition, sentence, utterance. Meaning, sense, reference, denotation, connotation, ambiguity, polysemy, homonymy, vagueness. Direct and indirect speech acts. 2. Sense relations: Synonymy, antonymy, hyponymy, meronymy. Figurative language: paradox, tautology, synesthesia, metaphor, synecdoche, metonymy, personification. 3. Paradigmatic models: Semantic fields, componential analysis, prototype theory, family resemblance. LEXICOLOGY 4. Word meaning and word structure. Word-forms. Lexemes. Lexicalisation and delexicalisation. Lexical gaps. Lexical cohesion. 5. Word formation processes: conversion, compounding, affixation, borrowing, initialism, blending, clipping, etc. 6. Meaning change: broadening, narrowing, amelioration, deterioration. 7. Syntagmatic perspectives: selectional restrictions, strength of attraction: corpus, collocation, concordance, colligation, cluster, semantic prosody. Measures of lexical variation: type/token ratio. 8. Diasystematic information: diachronic, diatopic, diaintegrative, diastratic, diaconnotative, diatechnical, diafrequential, dianormative. LEXICOGRAPHY 9. The evolution of dictionary-making. Methodology: field work, corpus-based lexicography. The metalanguage of lexicography. Range vs. scope dictionaries. Bilingual lexicography. TERMINOLOGY 10: LSP. Levels of specialization. Technical and semitechnical vocabulary. Terminology management. Standardization. Electronic tools: Term banks, terminological databases and term-extraction tools." |
