General description Properties and classification of soldering, brazing and welding processes. Study and industrial practice of output control in such joints. Basic concepts of soldering, brazing and welding. Typology of joints made by these processes. Symbols used. Welding rods, flux, brazes, solders. Protective gases. Processes of electric arc welding. Procedures and equipment. Oxyacetylene welding. Procedures and equipment. Resistance welding. Other metal jointing processes: heat-free welding, ultrasound welding, electrslag, friction welding, etc. Metallurgy of jointing. Properties of metals: mechanical, chemical, electrical and thermal. Fundamentals of metallurgy: microstructure, phase diagrams, metallurgy, weldability and joinability. Effects of heat treatments, preheating and stress-relieving. Quality control in welding: Defect checks on joints. Probable causes and solutions. Non-destructive trials for analysing welds: penetrating liquids, magnetic particles, X-rays, ultrasound. Destructive trials for analysing welds. Grading the procedure and certification for operatives. "
