General description | The discipline of Soil Science involves detailed and intensive examinations of natural bodies cover the earth’s surface as a continuum. The soil comprised of solids, liquid and gases that occurs on land surface, occupies space. The morphology of each soil, as expressed by a vertical section through the different horizons, reflects the combined effects of the particular set of genetic factors responsible for its development. The course begins with an overview of petrology and mineralogy of soils and the analysis of their landscape position. The initial material (minerals and organic matter) shows effects of genetic and environmental factors of: climate (including water and temperature effects), and macro-and microorganisms, conditioned by relief, acting on parent material over a period of time.A product soil differs from the material from which it is derived in many physical, chemical, biological and morphological properties and characteristics. Finally, the study of the role of Soil Science in soil survey and land evaluation | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
