"The aim of the course is that students master the basics of the English phonological system: its theory, practice and teaching.

Objetivos

"The aim of the course is that students master the basics of the English phonological system: its theory, practice and teaching.


Methodologies

We will use the phonemic symbols normally employed with R.P. (Received pronunciation), those used in classic works on the subject by, for example, Jones and Gimson, and those found in the various dictionaries available to students (the international phonetic alphabet).

- Study the differences between the English and Spanish phonetic systems, with a focus on key characteristics of English.
- Study various aspects of English phonology.
- Learn to recognize stressed syllables in rhythmic groups.
- Learn phonetic transcription and how to use a pronouncing dictionary.
- Practise intonation to express admiration, doubt, questions and commands.
- Practise taking phonological dictation
- Practise listening to conversation.
