1. The position of ecology in the biological and environmental sciences as a whole. Basic concepts and terminology. Fundamental ecological principles and laws.

2. Ecological principles applicable to the manifestation of risk phenomena.
Risks: concept. Classification of risks. Concept of disturbance. Disturbance as an ecological factor. Types of disturbances. Sources of disturbance. Mechanisms.

3. Ecological effects of disturbances.
General consequences of disturbances. Effects of disturbances on populations. Effects of disturbances at the community level. Disturbance and diversity. The intermediate disturbance hypothesis. Disturbance, complexity and stability. Disturbance and ecological succession.

4. Disturbance and fragmentation. Effects at the landscape scale.
The landscape as a level of organization. Landscape elements. Landscape structure. Landscape dynamics. Influence of spatial structure on abiotic flows. Influence of spatial structure on biotic fluxes.

5. Influence of disturbances on biogeochemical cycles.
