General description English Friendly. This course develops concepts and teaches skills related to flood and coastal risk management. The contents incorporate items about flooding causes, flood types and characteristics, river morphology, hydrological models, coastal dynamics, flood event prediction, and measures to reduce and mitigate damage in order to create a resilient society. The practical exercises follow the classical phases of any flood study: historical, geomorphological, hydrological and hydraulic analysis. For this reason this part of the course focuses in the extraction of the most relevant information from cartographic data (p.e. geological and topographical maps, among others), as well as from interpretation of aerial photographs and satellite images. Furthermore, students will learn discharge river frequency analysis to establish return periods and different hydrological models
